Our day-to-day lives are quickly becoming more dependent on internet, anytime and anywhere.
Therefore, due to this permanent high need of accessing the Internet, there is an increasing interest in the extending of the internet use to be implemented in transport means. It will allow the passenger to use their laptop to have high-speed access to internet and streaming applications.

MOWGLY addresses directly these needs as it will develop system to enable high-speed Internet/Intranet access for users in mobile vehicles like train, planes and ships. Consequently, MOWGLY will contribute to sustain the current trend in this sector. It will reinforce the competitiveness of the European industry, in a domain where there is a strong competition. Particularly, by developing a versatile system while providing a strong business case that suits the market demand, MOWGLY proposes an alternative solution to the on-going projects.

The objectives of MOWGLY are to solve the most significant and critical technical issues prerequisite to development, deployment and evolution of a broadband access satellite architecture for collective mobile users with the target to offer a quality of service similar to the traditional terrestrial networks for users in situation of mobility.

To achieve its objectives, the MOWGLY project chose a 3-steps approach:

1. Economical and usage analysis, leading to mission requirements and business case
2. Engineering study to define system architectures and establish development plan
3. Development and field trial experimentation of the communication chain

These 3 steps will be performed for the three targeted transportation means: aircraft, train and vessel

MOWGLY is an Integrated Project of the "Aeronautics and Space" thematic priority of the 6th Framework Program (FP6), under the "End-to-end satellite telecommunications systems for mobility applications" topic.
